Yoshiaki Arai served in the Army as part of the 552nd Field Artillery Battalion, part of the 442nd Combat Team. After the war, he briefly returned to the University of Washington before graduating from the University of Denver with a Master of Science degree. He later worked with the organ transplant group at the Denver Veterans Hospital.
Yoshiaki Arai married Fumi Kinoshita of Tacoma and they had three children: Gary, John and Mary. Yoshiaki Arai died in Denver on July 23, 2010.
