Yuri Fujii left Minidoka in July 1943 and attended the University of Chicago. She graduated with a degree in home economics in June 1945 and a BS in biological science in 1947. She trained for an additional year at the School of Dietetics at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Yuri Fujii then worked as a dietician in various capacities. She married Hiroshi Sugiyama, a microbiologist, in 1951 and had two daughters, Linda and Gayle. She and her family later moved to Madison Wisconsin where her husband worked at Food Research Institute at the University of Wisconsin. After her husband’s death in 2005, Yuri Fujii Sugiyama moved to Oakland, California where she now lives.
