John Hidemitsu S. Sato joined the 442nd but was later transferred to the Air Force Intelligence School. He was moved to Guam in late Spring 1945 and in Autumn 1945 he was with the scientific/technical detachment of the atom bomb group on Tinian and then in Japan on a research mission. After he returned to Guam, he served with a military police unit guarding Japanese Prisoners of War until his discharge in February 1946.

Sato returned to the University of Washington in 1947 and graduated with a degree in Accounting in 1948. He became a CPA in both Washington and Hawaii; he has resided in Hawaii since 1948. Sato retired in 1986 as the Vice President and Controller of GECC Financial Corporation, a G.E. Subsidiary in Hawaii. Sato married Ruth Yasuko Ito; he has five children and three grandchildren.
