Washington State Jewish Archives Photograph Collections Database

The Washington State Jewish Archives (WSJA) has over 350 photograph collections containing over 4000 photographs dating from the mid 1800s to present day, that relate to Jewish life and history in the Pacific Northwest, as well as nationally and internationally. Subjects represented in the WSJA photograph collections include:
  • Jewish families and life-cycle events
  • Jewish education
  • Jewish Merchants
  • Jewish community, religious, and business leaders
  • Jewish congregations and organizations
  • Jewish immigration and emigration
  • Sephardic culture
  • World War II and the Holocaust
  • Jewish activism
  • Pacific northwest history

This database searches WSJA photograph collections held by Special Collections and provides textual descriptions of individual images.

To choose names from a list, use the "Names List" button to the right of the NAME search box. To search on a full name, enter the last name first, i.e. "Adatto, Albert."

Enter search terms or phrases in the KEYWORDS box to search the Image Description, Photographer, and Notes fields.

To limit searches to photographs that depict organizations, schools, synagogues, or businesses, select a term from the drop-down menu in the SPECIAL LIMITERS field. This Search field may be used alone or in combination with the NAMES and KEYWORDS fields.
